Mexico Decor

Mexican style decor is a fusion of all its cultural influences just like it's people. When my husband and I went on our honeymoon to Xcaret, we walked around our hotel and one thing that caught our eye were the colors. You'll find Spanish tiles, even hints of Morocco, and colors galore! I love it.

Years ago, I gave a close friend of mine a book, Mexico Style, one of those cool Taschen books, and the stuff in there was amazing! I highly recommend it if you love colorful interiors as well as Living in Mexico.

Here are some pics I found of beautiful Mexican Decor, including one from our trip!

Another Mike Gonzalez' collection

My last post featured Mike Gonzalez' 2011 collection and here's another. It's SO beautiful...it makes me want to run to the beach! I especially like the mix of bright colors and the subtle prints. Let me not say anymore...

print love

As some of you have discovered my now, I am not into posting the latest trend (unless I love it). Nor will I post the latest fashion collection, unless it's amazing. I will post collections from last year, two years ago, or 10 if I like them and they inspire me. This particular collection is from last year ( from Mike Gonzales of Mike and Chris) and I am so lovin' the prints. Yes, I read that the company was going through financial woes during this time, nonetheless, I can say that talent is talent. It is a feast for the eyes, especially if you love African-inspired, geometric prints. He has mixed perhaps what you would least put together: crochet, military-like pieces, leather, amazing prints, and came up with a very feminine, sophisticated look.  I am a fan. La femme Parisian

This gloomy, rainy weather reminds me of one thing: Paris! The first time I stayed there by myself was in a friend's flat while he was touring and I would take the longest walks around the city. I used to get so lost that I'd get back by evening time (after leaving the apartment like at 8 am).

I am hardly a rainy day fan, but the fact that is was Paris made things a bit more interesting. Though I prefer Paris in the summertime, I can say that walking through the streets of Paris on gloomy, melancholic days gives me a feeling I will never forget. And of course...the opportunity to dress cute!

Here's what I envision...

South Asian Wedding flavor

South Asian style. AMAZING. If you haven't realized it by now, this is one of my faves. Why? I mean, come on? Wouldn't it make you feel like a queen dressed in something like that? The colors are gorgeous and the fabrics are to-die-for. Here's some more lovely stuff to inspire.

nomadic inspiration

Recently, I have been noticing that fashion designers are looking to other cultures for inspiration. Though this isn't new, more than ever (I think) designers and people are being more open to the beauty and art of others. For years now, we have been seeing various trends, such as the "tribal" "exotic" or "ethnic" look in the pages of big-name magazines. Though I don't really like any of those terms, I do appreciate the appreciation of cultures. Yes, many perhaps have no idea where the inspiration comes from, but I think it's a starting point. One thing that does bug me is that many times cultures and peoples are romanticized through fashion, such as the Gypsy trend romanticizing the Roma. We see Hollywood starlets, singers, and other famous people saying they have a "Gypsy Heart" or people running around wishing they were Gypsies when they have no idea what a Gypsy is or their history. (Anyway, I'll save this for another post)

I do believe though, that this is an opportunity for all of us to learn some culture and history about others. Since my childhood, I've been obsessed with cultures and music. When I was in elementary school, while kids were listening to pop music on the radio, I was listening to the African radio show, the Brazil hour, and watching Indian videos. Maybe I was a strange child, but the point is, I've been the same since. I tried emulating the styles of Bollywood stars, go to the African stores to buy fabric, or Chinatown for clothes. As an adult, I've toned things down and fortunate me...these things are in vogue. YES!

This is why I call my "fashion sense" nomadic. I jump from one culture to another because they are all beautiful!  Why stick to today's trends when there are so many beautiful things out there? Or why try to fit yourself into a trend when it may not even look good on you? Fashion for me is like wearing art. I see myself as a canvas, not only to display art, but also it displays a lot of who we are as people, whether adventurous, quiet, loud, artsy, etc.

Anyway, found some nomadic inspiration for all you nomadic souls! enjoy...

caravaning in my dreams

I was surprised how many people are into campers, caravans, RVs, trailers, (whatever you call it) and airstreams. I've been dreaming of one for who-knows-how-long now and it originally began with a dream of having a vardo (a gypsy caravan) and traveling across the country, but I'll take a vintage camper or airstream anytime! I keep seeing really cool ones on Pinterest and all over the web! I have no idea where I'd put it, but I am still dreaming of one.

In France, I stayed in one in the "campagne", when I was wandering around homeless (true story) and it wasn't anything like the ones we see on Pinterest or magazines or blogs. It was cold, insects would creep in at night, no where near a toilet, and it was far from glamorous! I hated it! It was like camping...and I HATE CAMPING! No, I am not high-maintenance, (actually far from it) but I don't like insects, wet grass, being cold, nor lonely. So I think I would like to redeem those bad memories.

Well, I sort-of have been by looking through really amazing ones. Some are just too cute while others are just Gypsy Glamorous. Maybe one day my dream will come true and I'll have a bright red one in my future backyard with polka-dotted curtains and bright cushions. Meanwhile, I'll continue to dream...
